Introduction
Beijing Xinggu Industrial Development Zone (XGIDZ) is located in the Pinggu District of Beijing, 40 km from Beijing Capital Airport, 70 km from downtown Beijing and 130 km from Tianjin Port. XGIDZ was established in 1993, and was approved as a municipal-level development zone in 2000.
By the end of 2003, XGIDZ had attracted 700 enterprises, with the food industry being the cornerstone of XGIDZ. Famous enterprises in the Zone include Want Want Group, Vitalon Foods Company, Qianxihe, Laocaichen, and Jianlibao.
Among them, Want Want Group is the largest investor. It has set up six enterprises in XGIDZ with a total investment of USD 48.6 million. In 2003, the total revenue of Want Want reached RMB 500 million (USD 60.5 million). Industries like pharmaceuticals, bio-engineering and optical-mechanical-electronic integration technologies are also being established in XGIDZ.
In accord with the master plan by the Beijing municipality, the automobile industry was elevated to become a pillar industry of Beijing. Pinggu District, which hosts XGIDZ, was designated for automobile manufacturing.
XGIDZ has allocated a land area of 200 ha to the establishment of a Korean Enterprise Park. To date, Sungwoo Hi-tech, Hwashim Co and other enterprises have set up their operations in the Zone. It is expected that the auto parts industry in XGIDZ will grow rapidly in the future.
