Lanzhou is one of China's 12 main
transport centers and is an integrated
transportation hub of the Greater Northwestern
Railway, Expressway and air route. The West
Freight Station is the largest freight station in
the Western Region and is also a primary container
transfer center on the New Euro-Asia
Transcontinental Bridge.
Lanzhou is an integrated industrial base
where the main industries are oil and chemical
engineering, metallurgy, mechatronics and light
textiles. As part of the Yellow River Upstream
Economic Zone and Longhai -Lanzhou -Xinjiang
Economic Belt, Lanzhou is a key city in the
Western Region. Situated at the western part of
China, Lanzhou's high levels of productivity is due
to its low cost advantage. Costs of power and
water for industrial use are lower than that in
the Coastal Region.
Northwest Normal University, Northwest
Agricultural University, Northwest Jiaotong
University and several other universities are
located in LZETDZ. Thus far, there are more than
400 enterprises registered in LZETDZ. In the first
nine months of 2003, its GDP reached RMB 450
million (USD 50 million).
