MBBR Media AS-MBBR78 Tilapia Farming Application

The AS-MBBR78 plays a central role in MBBR systems for tilapia farming. It provides a large surface area for the growth and biofilm formation of microorganisms, which are responsible for the treatment of harmful substances in the culture water. The following are the main roles of AS-MBBR78 in tilapia aquaculture:

1. Support Platform for Biofilm
Large surface area: AS-MBBR78 has a high specific surface area, which means it can provide more space for microorganisms to attach and grow. The thickness and quality of the biofilm are critical to the overall biological treatment process.
Dynamic movement: the media is constantly moving in the water, which not only ensures the exchange of oxygen on the surface of the media but also helps to remove aged biofilm, thus maintaining the treatment efficiency.

2. Biological Treatment of Harmful Substances
Ammonia-Nitrogen Conversion: Bacteria in MBBR systems are able to convert ammonia (NH₃) in water to nitrite (NO₂-) and then to nitrate (NO₃-), a process known as nitrification. Nitrification is a key step in removing ammonia and nitrogen from the water and is critical to the health of tilapia because ammonia and nitrogen are toxic to fish.

Decomposition of Organic Matter: In addition to the nitrogen cycle, the microorganisms on the AS-MBBR78 decompose other organic pollutants in the water, such as fish waste and undigested feed residues.

3. Enhanced Water Stability
Stabilized Biological Processes: The AS-MBBR78 provides a continuous, stabilized biological treatment capacity through its biofilm, which helps to maintain continuous stability of water quality, reducing the incidence of disease and environmental stress.

4. Improved system efficiency
Reduced system maintenance: Due to the self-cleaning feature of the MBBR system, maintenance needs are relatively low. The dynamic nature of the media helps prevent system clogging and reduces the need for routine cleaning.

Space and cost savings: MBBR systems can be designed to be more compact due to their high treatment capacity, saving space and reducing initial investment and operating costs compared to other conventional biological treatment technologies.
